FC Series Active Carbon Systems

Active carbon is used for eliminating insoluble organic and inorganic pollutions in addition to its property of eliminating color, taste and odor in water. Surface area increased approximately 100 times with activation process, carbon mineral filtrates organic matters through absorption.

Most widely used rawmaterial in producing active carbon is coconut shell, coal, wood and petroleum residues. Coconut-based active carbon obtained through burning coconut in high temperature ovens absorb chemical substances, absorb organic matters and remove chemical and organic matters from water.

Chemical ReactionBalance of chlorine in water depends on pH degree of water and vary as follows.lower than pH 3: Hypochlorite acid (HOCI) and significant amount of chlorine (CI 2) is present.Between pH 4-7: Hypochlorite acid (HOCI) is more and free chlorine in water causes reduction in high PH value.More than pH 7: Free hypochlorite ions (OCI) increase gradually. Chlorine removal half value, active carbon?s dechlorination capacity are generally characterized with dechlorination half value test (German DIN 19603 standard). This test defines the required bed depth of the carbon in order to reduce the chlorine concentration by half according to a given flow rate value.

Full automatic Fleck and Autotrol (digital) valves are used as control unit. The system carries out backwashing according to the set time on valve, without requiring human intervention. It removes sedimentation accumulated in the media bed by discharging it through the drainage line and than turns back to the service status later.

Fiberglass (FRP) Wavecyber and Structural tanks are generally used in filters. Tank selection is made considering the flow rate of water which will pass through the system and pollution load.Active carbon reaches to saturation after a while since it cannot discharge absorbed chemicals such as chlorine through backwashing. Therefore, semiannual mineral replacement is required.
